The µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg stands …

One of the greatest difficulties in the transition from school to university is the change in one’s own way of working from learning at school to studying independently. This is made more difficult by the suddenly larger “classroom” that is now called the lecture hall, and in which one sits at the beginning with a great many unfamiliar faces. Left to your own devices, it can take up to two years before you begin to realize what an interesting, stimulating, colorful, opportunity-giving environment you are actually in.
At µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg, we don’t want to waste those two years! We want to introduce our students to the world of the university from the very beginning and show them the wealth of paths, possibilities and opportunities so that our students can seize them from the very first semester.

Therefore, we invite interested freshmen to visit us at µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg to explore the questions with us:

  • What constitutes the profession of a modern microelectronics engineer?
  • When I’m done with my studies, what career options will be available to me, what opportunities can I seize?
  • How does a “chair” actually work, where I am supposed to work, learn and research when I am not sitting in the lecture hall?
  • What does such a “chair” look like from the inside?
  • What should I also pay attention to during my studies?
  • Do I have the chance to get a doctorate?
  • What is the habilitation?

Once the hardships of the beginning have been overcome, the question for our students is: “What topic should I pursue in greater depth?” Here, the Department of Electrical Engineering-Electronics-Information Technology (EEI) offers accompanying help and orientation.

Through the EEI lecture series offered in the fourth semester of the bachelor’s program “Electrical Engineering”, our students get a detailed insight into the various specializations of our degree programs. This lecture series also presents the various Master’s programs that can be followed after a successful Bachelor’s degree.

The professors who represent the respective focus areas are responsible for the respective lecture series. And of course, you will then also learn everything about the “Microelectronics” focus.

Disruptions are innovations that replace existing technologies, products or services and drive them completely out of the market. As a result, the investments of the market participants who previously dominated the market are lost.

By discussing the development, discussion and realization of ideas from the perspective of disruption with our students, we produce young people who can recognize disruptive developments in technology, assess their impact on society and respond to them. In doing so, they reflect on the triggered socio-economic developments in their entirety in order to meet the needs of all people, including future generations. In doing so, we commit them to ethical action guided by a set of values.

To make this possible, all teaching and training at µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg – regardless of the course of study chosen – is based on the special triad of study, workshop and research & development. Only this triad enables the interlocking of profound theoretical knowledge with the highest practical skills and technical excellence.

At the center of this triad “Study – Workshop – Research & Development” is the Bauhaus-inspired workshop concept of µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg, through which the practical relevance of our teaching is established. The workshop concept uniquely combines the outstanding technical and infrastructural equipment of the Chair of Electronic Devices (LEB) as well as the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Systems and Device Technology (IISB) and closely interlinks them with the research-based teaching concept.

The special feature: The workshop is open to all students, provided they have an idea, from the first bachelor’s or master’s semester on! And of course, this is also the workshop where our apprentices progress from apprentice to journeyman and master.

Many excellent ideas are put aside again and not pursued because people say to themselves, “Who am I? If this was a good idea, others would have had it already!” Or one does not pursue a good idea, a good thought, because one does not see a chance to implement it, because there is a lack of money, material, tools, skills and possibilities.

We want to counter this in the µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg with the “Marketplace of Ideas”, so that no idea is lost from our midst. The µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg offers excellent infrastructural conditions – machines, tools, laboratory and experimental areas – for semiconductor technology, combined with excellent professional-technical “know how”, so that no good idea has to be abandoned, you just have to present it and put it up for discussion.

The µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg provides the forum for this. And if the idea is born from among our students, so much the better! Then we combine the beautiful – the implementation of the idea – with the practical – the in-depth education of our students. Do you have an idea?

And if you ask yourself now, “But the implementation will also cost money, won’t it?” Here’s a nice quote from the southwest of the republic:

And in Franconia, we are not any poorer.

The µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg offers extensive opportunities through a diverse program of offers for study abroad, semesters abroad and research stays with our national and international research and cooperation partners.

In addition, we support our students in realizing their own ideas for research projects at home and abroad. For us, the focus is not only on pure knowledge acquisition and “credit points”, but also on immersion in the culture and language of the partner country.

In addition, we want the famous “thinking outside the box” to be more than just a phrase for our students. We want our students to ask themselves, “What have I always wanted to deal with, too?” The European Metropolitan Region of Nuremberg alone is a region of philosophy, art, music, architecture, (industrial) design, brewing and wine-making, … , the offer is huge. Wouldn’t you like to immerse yourself in the work of Albrecht Dürer? Just do it!

The µe-bauhaus erlangen-nürnberg supports its students sustainably with knowledge, contacts, advice and recommendations to develop further.
